Suzhou

Suzhou's actually quite a pretty place.. traditional architecture with all the gardens etc...

here're some pics..

COOOOOOOL!

In the end, they decided not to take back the nuggets..

so i now have 3 nuggets and 5 chicken wings...

apparently french style chicken wings means there's no meat along the bone one.. all bunched up to the top.. weird man the french.. weirder than claiming mcnuggets to be their invention..

KIO DIOOOOOOOOO

After chastising me for my bad eating habits, not-so-private-agnes said i shld be angry for the wrong order...what the heck.. i called the room service person and said hey i ordered wings but u gave me nuggets.. she offered to give me my wings ... cool!!! now i dun have to worry abt supper..

oh btw, i ate all my three of the nuggets before they came to get it back.. i'm not all cheap... *wink*

Gosh

Gosh, the not-so-private-agnes actually reads my blog and chastised me for eating nuggets!!

muhahahah.. im so touched that more than a few people actually come back for more...

*burp*

French Style Chicken???

I ordered room service cos i didnt have any cash with me. felt hungry (as usual)..decided to order a side dish in addition to my yangzhou fried rice (as usual).. hmm maybe ill have this "French style chicken wings"

for some reason, french style chicken wings refer to this...

there's something wrong with the french... french fries dont come from france also ..(belgium for the uninformed, btw) so stoopig... that's obviously a mcnugget lor... and we all know where mcnuggets come from... McDonald's lor!!

MAHJONG!!

my dear frens have decided to commenmorate my return to SG with a much missed mahjong session..

so i'll be playing mahjong on the saturday im back..it's the usual suspects.. i am shit fong, keeve and YK.. long time since we four played..

i hope i win... *sweat*

Where's Cornball

Cornball's now back in Shanghai again..

after a 2 hrs ride from Suzhou this evening, Cornball's back in the room watching "Courage Under Fire" and doing his expense claims for the last 7 days... so far it's abt S$1,000.

He hopes there's more to claim...

SICK!

woke up with a fever and sore throat.. and lao-saied..

i hope i dun lao sai on the way back to shanghai later..

*sweat*

Nice nice place..

im here tonite.. perhaps one of the best city hotels ive stayed before..

Doesnt anyone drink Earl Grey with milk? im beginning think im the abnormal one...

Shanghai Nights

Phew.. i finally left the Island (machiam Ewan and Scarlett like that.. muhhahahah).. in shanghai now.. gosh it's cold.. from 32 degrees on the Island.. to 14 degrees in Shanghai.. brrr... but i like it cold.. it's like u r in a big air con like that..

im staying here for one night then leaving tmr for Suzhou...

im waiting for my dinner now.. i hope this doesnt give me a lao sai like the other time.. *sweat*

A Story

He was a newspaper vendor.. with a little setup just by the steps of the MRT station. Everyday, he sat there, as throngs of people passed by him in the morning. As the early rays of the morning peeked through the clouds, he laid out the magazines and newspapers of the day. And once in a while, a student would come buy a copy of "8 Days" and a working executive might buy a "Her World" to while the dull journey to work. Peak hours would be when the students from the nearby college got off school in the afternoon, in the evenings when the rat pack got off work. Many private driving instructors waited for their students here at the station and have made friends with him over the years.

Business was affected when the SPH and thereafter Mediacorp Publishing decided to come up with free newspapers. Now, there was something else to take the minds of the commuters and what's more, it's free! Damn the capitalists, he muttered. Throngs of people would queue up in front of the yellow boxes to wait for an old man to distribute free newspapers. Sometimes, he found the old man quite familiar. "Maybe he graduated in the Class of 64 from the Academy of News Vendors. Or maybe he didn't even graduate, cos he failed the "NV 401 - How to Set Up Your Very Own News Stand" module."

He laughed as mean thoughts swam in his mind.

He decided to open his little newsstand later since the morning crowd wont be buying anything from him in the morning anyway.

It was the morning of 14 November 2000... it was a slow evening.. maybe everyone's down cos it was a Tuesday. No one wants to read anything else after work, they're all brain dead in the beginning of the week. He twiddles his thumbs as he eyes an awkward looking boy, holding a Seiyu plastic bag.. looking around furtively. (He doesnt think the boy is a terrorist cos the Sept 11 terrorist attacks hasnt happened yet). He decides that looking at the boy is more fun than waiting for people to buy newspapers.

Soon, a girl comes along. The News Vendor checks her out. She's in a white Winnie the Pooh shirt and pink shorts. Bespectacled, she looks quite studious. She approaches the boy. "Hmm.. are they a couple," he thought. He decides this looks interesting.

They dont kiss or hug when they meet. The boy stands awkwardly. He suddenly whips out a bouquet of blue tulips from the plastic bag and presents it to her. She looked surprised. He then asks her a question.

She gasps and exclaimed, "Wah.. so sudden ah!?!" She smiles and they hug.

Hand in hand, he sees the two of them enter the MRT station, grinning ear to ear.

Early Morning Announcement

I woke up feeling frozen all over...

I'd thought i'd bring some warmth to someone this morning..

So i told another person abt my blog.. muhhahahahaha

Enjoy yourself here *wave*

Mambo Jumbo

I duno abt u guys but im pretty sick abt this hainan mambo jumbo...i prob said and typed the word "hainan" more in these 3 days than in the last 26 yrs!!

i think i'll prob post one or two more entries abt it when im less sick of it.. n then that's it.. no more hainan..

anyway, im flying off tmr to Shanghai liaoz...

Chek Ah!

some people have said i've been very chek ah abt complaining abt the food my relatives have prepared for me.. some have said i was funny. my sister said my mum is secretly happy the chicken she cooks is better than the place of origin of THE chicken rice..

but oh well, in all fairness, the chicken used was probably an old mother hen kinda chicken which is not very tender and with a huge HUGE layer of fat... it was abt 3 milimetres thick ok!!!

and i guess im just not used to eating with flies flying ard and chickens (live ones) pecking at my shoes.

plus i dun like to eat veggy..

*shrug*

Surreal yet Real

my relatives managed to find my hotel and i rented a car to drive us 150km into the deep throes of the hainan jungle..

by 1.5 hours, we were at the edge of the jungle and i tot it was on foot from here.. but nooooooooooooooooo... apparently the taxi i rented also doubles as a four-wheel-drive SUV...up and down the jungle trail that is no wider than the taxi itself..here's a pic of it..

i thought that was pretty scary already..until the trail got as wide as one person walking kind ya... like this..

anyway, that's my aunty's house in the horizon..i was glad to be finally here after a 2hr ride..

i officially entered Hainan-dom..

Here, if u dont speak Hainanese, that's it. u dont get no tissue, u dont get no water, u dont get no nothing.. hainan all the way. if u duno how to say "sister" in the proper way, u jus point at the picture and say female in hainese and hope they can put two and two together. And whilst you're trying to piece a coherent conversation together, you hear firecrackers outside.. hey cool, they're welcoming me with firecrackers.. of cos there isnt any in SG.. so like a perfect tourist that i am, i took pics of it..

then there's an authentic hainanese dinner..chicken(yucks), prawns(yucks), veggie (yucks), soup (nice!)

No more Sai

A few of my readers have asked me abt my sai..and some have guessed that it's the supper burger i had..

thank you for the concern.. i took some charcoal pills and im now ok..

in fact im just back from visiting my relatives.. will update moreon that later.. im zonked...

Hainan 好难

I only slept like 4 hours cos i woke up at 8am... *yawn*

woke up cos there was an urge to lao sai... bleah.. i hate waking up like this..

and then i thought i'd call my relatives and asked them wat time they wana meet me..

I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THE NUMBER DOESNT WORK!!!!!

i called them, i asked the operator to call them and i called my mum to call them but the no. jus doesnt work anymore. but i already called them in SG before i left..

it's 10 am now and i jus lao sai-ed a 2nd time..

Hainan isnt turning out as nice as i thought it'd be...

the chicken rice later better be good.

Laundry

I actually just sent my things to the laundry.. called the laundry gal to come to my rm to collect.. then i quickly rummaged my bag to get my dirty clothes.. then i realised the clothe im wearing also need to be washed... quickly removed them also.. my shirt, my underwear and my socks... when i put them in the laundry bag, it kinda felt warm..

i think it's very disgusting.. i hope she doesnt realise the warmth..

*sweat*

Touch Down

Phew.. i just touched down in Hainan and im blogging already...

im glad they gave me a king bed this time.. the twin beds are a lil small for fattie me..

i quickly ordered room service cos i didnt have dinner.. although it's like 1230am now.. but well, im hungry..

yummy burger came...with a nice pot of tea.. and yes.. with a small cuppa milk..=)

Im on a roll..

i just told xhlimmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm abt my blog too.. im on a roll now..

and she siad my blog mostly abt food..

yeah, i guess so.. it's abt food..my life revolves around food...a lot

Kenna Red Bomb in the End

Apparently after her parents read my blog (!!!), my fren was apparently allocated some tables for her wedding.. so we're all invited again..

damn.. S$28 down the drain

:~~(

3 More Added into the Inner Circle

On a spur of a moment, i told 2 more people abt my blog yesterday morning and one more today... you know who u are...

*wave*

enjoy yourselves here and leave more comments...

Mooooore food

After a hard day of walking around boring shantou and visiting some hotels, we decided we were hungry again... and my colleague wanted to eat some freshwater crap.. called 大闸蟹... ok lor.. she siad she eat one whole thing then no need to eat anything liao.. since it's 大 i tot ok lor.. then i shall order a black pepper beef, fried bean sprouts and fried rice (another type this time) for myself...

keke..

here's wat we ordered...

a lot hor... turns out her crab damn small.. then i offered her some of my rice (sob!) but that gave me more room for dessert..

turns out dessert in the chinese resturant was rather boring..all these aunty and uncle kind of desserts like tang yuan.. i asked got some more of not then she said got western dessert.. i said ok onz... turns out she went to the western restaurant to get the menu.. gosh i had to order something.. ok lor.. ordered some fried banana and vanilla ice cream thingy.. and since i tot i was going to stay up late to run some numbers, i thought i'd order a cuppa Earl Grey..the ger didnt really understand wat Earl Grey is even when i pointed to her on the menu... and when it came, it came in a glass cup.. a clear glass cup like those coffee shops in SG... hmm.. kinda weird la... but ok la.. i asked for milk.. she looked at me quizzically..milk?? hmm.. a glass can??

i said ok.. n she brought me a humongous glass of milk and a straw!!.. bigger than my tea!! i was like waaaaaaaaat?? i jokingly asked if i'd be charged for for the milk.. she nodded... diaoz....

so i had an Earl Grey in a SG-Coffeeshop-like glass cup, with a huge huge glass of milk and drinking frm a straw... it was pretty weird..

this feels like the time i ordered Camomile tea with milk..

Walking around Shantou..

after lunch, we went abt the city.. it's a damn boring city.. nothing much.. it's really boring..took some boring pics..

here's a pic of a gargantuan chicken for the year of the Chicken this year... my sis is born in the year of the chicken.. so i took a pic of it.. =)

that's abt the most interesting thing i saw...

Foodie...

After a very tiring inspection, my collague and i decided to whack some good dim sum and cow stomach.. (apparently there's 2 kinds of cow stomach.. i think it's called tripes in SG but i cant be sure..). Dim sum cost 5RMB (S$1) per long and we ordered like 8 longs...that is obviously not enuff for me but the waitress said it was enuff.. she obviously doesnt know me (DUH!)n therefore i ordered a yangzhou fried rice..

here's the pic of the spread we (or rather I) whacked.. aiyah.. the fried rice pic got my face there.. too bad then...

Loong Trip Part Deux

it was a long ride.. so it deserves 2 posts..

i was bored.. so i thought of calling some ple to chit chat.. but everyone was working leh.. 4pm+..

i remembered it was diana's bday.. jus out of the blue like tat.. my memory works in strange ways... yeah.. shld i call her to wish her happy bday?? like quite bo liao hor.. nvr see her for 5 yrs liao.. suddenly jus call like that.. nah i dun think i shld even waste S$0.87 on an sms too.. keke..hy but wait, she jus smsed me that day to tell me she changed hp no. but it was in my other fone.. oopsy.. too bad then.. no bday sms..

then i remembered this person.. smsed me at 1am in 2 consecutive nights.. but i was on the plane the previous nite and asleep already on the next.. n the anonymous person knows my name..hmm weird.. then i decided to call the person.. maybe my fren gave my no. to the pretty gals i mentioned in my previous entries below and one of them is smsing me!!! so i called..

hmm.. the voice sounded familiar.. DIANA!!! hahahaha.. such an amazing coincidence.. after some chit chat.. she ascertained that i was in a cab going towards shantou.. she said "eeewl. u? in china? it's like a naked african in antartica!!" i had no idea what that analogy meant really.. these mass comm ple.. arent they supposed to communicate to the masses? no way, hoseh, for this particular graduate..

anyway she made me sing her a bday song in the mountainous terrains en route to the middle of no where in China.. after assuring my bemused colleague that i dont do this often, i went back to sleep..

LOOONG Journey

We took an uber long cab ride from Xiamen to Shantou... almost 4 hours man.. thank goodness we booked quite a comfy cab and my colleague was quite thin so it was quite spacious.. actually supposed to take coach one.. coach only costs RMB100 each but cab costs RMB600 each.. my boss decided that since i had motion sickness and that the journey so long then let us take cab.. keke..

anyway my colleague took out her laptop and started doing some work.. i cant la.. got motion sickness so i jus slept lor.. then my boss called.. chatted with him for a while.. seems like he likes to chat with me when im overseas.. well, it's fine..since he's paying the bill anyway.

anyway it was boring and i had a good share of sleep..

took this pic in the toilet during a pit stop..hah.. damn funny

First Night in China

Stayed in this hotel on the first night..great room..pity only staying for one night...

Welcoming my 11th fan

Seems like everyone likes a lil blog here to inform the rest of my fans that ive informed yet another person..

my 11th fan is a someone i knew from JC time... same class as me some more and keeve, imshitfong and her would go to bedok and eat johnson duck at the interchange...

shortbin's getting married soon but she just informed us she wasnt allocated enuff tables and thus we are ALL not invited..

i didnt know that you're allocated tables to your own wedding.. keke.. in any case, S$28 saved!!!

YAY!!

Yay!! seems like i cant access blogspot in China.. and thus i didnt blog in xiamen.. but now that im in shantou.. i thought i'd try this proxy switcher thingy that Voxeros from SPUG taught me.. and lo and behold i'm here!!!!

anyway, yeah, im in Shantou..

Happy Bday Keeve!

yesterday was my buddy Keeve's birthday!!!

he doesnt like to celebrate his bday so we didnt lor..

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU MAN!!!

=)

Chatterbox

Since i'm blogging and pretending to do work, i thought i'd post a pic of this chicken rice i ate at Chatterbox restaurant in Meritus Mandarin Hotel yesterday..

i think i first ate this exact same dish when i was 5 or 6 yrs old and i rem then it cost a whopping S$15!!!! that's mighty EX for something that long back. Today it costs S$18.. not cheap but its certainly grew less than inflation..

Assuming an inflation date of 2.5%, something that cost S$15 20 years ago, would cost S$15 *(1.025^20) = S$24.57 today!!!

wow.. so S$18 was a steal!!!

My Mum

i actually didnt wana blog abt this cos dun wana talk bad abt my mum.. haha..

my mum came to me that day all excited abt my trip to Hainan with a box of Ferrero Rocher..she said, " if u have any friends in shanghai, u can give it to them but if u dun have any friends there, u can give to our relatives in hainan."

i was like.. wow.. that was a good way to slip that item to hainan thru my imaginary "frens" in shanghai.. that's my mum for u..

Anyway, i was just telling my colleague abt it anyway jus now.. when a courier came..

FOR ME!!! an item for me!! so cool!!

Turns out it's from Audrey and lo and behold it was a box of Rochers!!! amazing timing man!! so impeccable...

anyway she was nice to send me chocs to wish me well for my trip

here's a pic of it..

Mistake

I made the eternal mistake of telling gweneth powto my blog.. at first she didnt believe me when i told her cornball.blogspot.com, she thought it was a joke.. but i think curiosity got the better of her and now she's hooked to this site!!

she's now insisting i blog abt her...

i also duno to say..

i think i'll paste the frenster testimonial she wrote for me eons ago:

damn.. friendster changed so much i cant find my testimonials...

Well, Cornball's a gd pal of mine in sch.
And a strange twist of events gave us
the chance to know each other. One of
the most efficient and intelligent
people i know, he's been an advisor to
me someway or another during the past
two years. He's a leader at work and
play. Efforts of him organising school
projects as well as badminton and makan
sessions, he's really all u ever wanted
in a friend.

Always suaning me about my metal
braces, my fats, my singlehoodness, my
bad english and the list seems
inexhaustable... he's still my friend.
Maybe coz he does it in a funny way. I
never fail to crack up whenever he's
around. Makes my study life so much
more interesting and fun-filled.

Pretty Gals

I met a couple of my fren's frens that day.. all three of them quite pretty. And one of them caught my eye cos she looked very familiar. On knowing her name, i realised i met her like 10 yrs ago when i was out with my fren. of cos i told her la.. but i think she kinda forgot n then thought it was a lame pickup line on my part.. i mus admit it does sound lame.. but hey it's true, i remember her!

Incongruences

I like the word "Incongruent". I dont use the words "different", "dissimilar" or "differing" very often.. i prefer to use "Incongruent". tat's mostly cos i wana act chim and i love the way the word rolls off my tongue...

u can check out the pronounciation here..click on the red speaker icon

so there u go :- Incongruent.

the world is filled with incongruences and it's painful. it's a big pain in the fat ass when your expectations are incongruent with your client, it's saddening when your partner's thoughts of the relationship are incongruent to yours. it hurts when two ple have incongruent views on their frendship.

some may argue that incongruences lead to improvement. when one doesnt agree with another, he/she may strive to do something different and thus create something new.

that's rare and most of the time, incongruences hurt.

i still like the word.

Welcome.. Welcome.. my 9th Fan

i've just told a ninth person abt my blog..

welcome welcome to Cornball's Lil' Korner

Eye Bags

More than a few people have commented on my eye rings and i've also noticed them.. actually i've had eye rings and eye bags for the longest of times cos i also sleep so little.. and i think the prob has been excerbated by my serious lack of sleep recently.. so i've decided to do something abt it..

As usual i asked the ple in SPUG..

I've gotten a few suggestions:

1. Bodyshop Eye Revitaliser
2. Bodyshop Vit E (not sure if it's the same as No.1 )
3. Sisley Paris
4. SKII

and since my sis says Sammi Cheng so pretty, SKII mus be gd.. so i've gone on a nation-wide hunt to all SKII counters to get samples.. muhahahaa. ive 2 so far..

:)

i hope this works

Halloween

It's Halloween that day and i changed my MSN nick to

"Harlow.. Win Liao Lor"

An Angel in Your Life

I was watching Channel U on Sat morn and it was some show abt buddhist temples and their beliefs and all.. yeah, i was kinda bored..

something interesting one of the priests (not a monk leh, duno how to addreess them) said..

he was talking abt the two crescent shaped things that u throw and how the direction in which they fall indicate the "message" from the deities..n then he was talking abt the qian.. the 上上 qian or 下下qian thingies..many people obviously seek direction on BGR matters.. n this priest for lack of a better title) gave this story: last time for this man.. very fillai one.. n when his mum died, he got no money for her burial so he sold himself as a slave to this rich man.. n for some reason, this touched the gods and an angel or fairy (in the chinese context) came to earth n be his gf to take care of him.. n then after he was ok and all, she left.

of cos my version/recollection of the story is sketchy at best but the lesson behind this story is that sometimes people enter our lives for a reason. gfs and bfs come and go.. they're here for a reason for that particular period of our lives.. to teach us things, to take care of us, to make us laugh, to make us fat, to make us thin, to make us understand things, to make us dress up better, to make us teach them things, to shape our emotional wellbeing, to simply touch our lives.. they might not stay for the rest of our lives cos their mission might be completed after a while.

that's actually quite sad really.

im someone who treasure memories and i certainly value a long term relationship..and with the astoundingly memory i have, i jus cant forget things..

and so they use this story to console ple who break up.. that hey, that nice n caring gal whom u treasured and loved so much was jus supposed to take care of u during ur tough uni days.. or that charming guy was only there for u when u were feeling broken and down..

it isnt fair. and the feeling certainly sux.

Round Trip

Mum got suitably excited when she heard that i was going hainan island.. she told me she's going to announce to our relatives. Now, that's bad.. cos usually she doesnt say she'd announce but she would still do it.. so this time, she tells me she's going to, i guess it'd be a big announcement..

wants me to bring some jackets and money back there.. and bring them for a meal.. i was like " gosh, im going for 10+ days and i need 10+ days' of clothes.. how can i bring an extra jacket man.. gosh.." And i dont mind bringing them for dinner.. but jus that i duno if i'd feel awkward having dinner with relatives i've never seen before..

oh well..

here's my preliminary schedule..

leaving on 9 Nov 1am..

coming back on 18 Nov 6pm..

haha.. not much of a schedule but im too lazy to type it out...

Control..

it's sunday night and i'm on my bed blogging...

im feeling shitty.

it's not the melancholy of going to work. im actually looking forward to going to work.. cos it's at work where i find i get more control of the situation. well, it's not like im in total control at work and im super good at wat i do but it jus seems like it's all manageable and u just have to stay in a lil longer and it'd be fine..

that's prob why i look forward to going to work.. silly, some ple might say. but it's here in the office where i have some semblance of control in my life.

i think i lead a sad existence...

New Penguin

Kimchi Gang found me this penguin cos she probably thinks my current penguin feels naked...

so that's my new msn pic.. it's receiving rave reviews.

Phone

I had a nice conversation with audrey yesterday... it was nice..

my colleagues always know when im talking to her.. they say i talk differently and laugh more...

In Good Company

I watched this dvd last week... In Good Company... one of those dvds that i bought but didnt think it was that nice so i watched the others first but then i was so bored last week so i watched.

Gosh it was great.

summarily, it was abt this old head of advertising department of a magazine (Dennis Quaid) who finds himself demoted when the magazine gets bought over and this yng punk (Topher Grace) who becomes his boss..

Dennis is a family man who has 2 daughters and 1 baby son comingso he kinda has a good family life

Topher is supposed to be a prodigy to be groomed by the management but he recently got divorced and literally sleeps and works in the office.

i find the distinction between the characters very interesting.. one family man and one who has the perfect job... i think i'm very like the young punk.. not that im being groomed or wat but my job's like all i have now and everything's jus work work work...if the show's any true, i'm headed for trouble.. i duno man...

I got so hyped up by dennis quaid that i went to search for my "A Day After Tomorrow" dvd.. but cant find leh...

get the dvd from me if u wana watch it..

Friday, October 28, 2005

Oopsy..

i jus offered a Muslim interviewee who came to my office if he wanted a drink..

my boss reminded me thereafter...

damn.. wat a dumbass...

i hope i dont kenna the Sedition Act for this..

it was an innocent mistake.. he looked hot and sweaty mah..

Shirts

I just cleared my wardrobe.. jus a little.. not that it was very mesy but my shirts are all over the shop and i hate it when it's not in a proper order...

i have a wardrobe and a hanger thingy that is outside.. i like all my white based shirts inside n the colored ones outside cos i thought dun wana dirty the whites mah.. but apparently my mum says the shirts will collect dust n the colored ones particularly the darker one would be more apparent..so it's the whites outside n the colors inside..

i counted 50 shirts... *sweat*

i think i should stop buying them...

Life and Love

when i told one of my new fans of my blog, she told me.. so this is how i can hear of you from now on eh.. from your blog...

Not tat i mind of cos.. bring it on man.. i love mahjong.. all the cognitive skills needed to decide which tile to throw.. and the tactics to deploy when u know of your opponent's strategy...so exciting.

anyway, back to topic... i've been busy recently and i've fallen sick.. havent been sick for a while and it sure sucks when u have to work when you're sick cos you're ust too busy to take MC...

busy busy busy.. seems like a word i use very often now.. im swamped with my shanghai projects and then came the bangkok one.. n then the dumb ass terrorists had to bomb bali.. which added more work for me... i think things should get better by the end of October.. but only for a while.. before i embark on year-end portfolio valuations.. probably see me taking a round trip around asia... i hate travelling for long stretches.. always cant wear clean clothes one..

Bangkok food

Bangkok is of course known as a haven for good food and for a foodie like me, i definitely whacked all the way..

I was hungry on one of those days cos i didnt have breakfast and after some meetings in the morning.. i decided to have a good lunch and thought it'd be nice to have it at the best restaurant in Bangkok, The Oriental. i asked for the best restaurant but the lasy said that it was the french restuarant that was across the river (the chao praya). aiyah i just came from that side of the river, moreover, i dont like french food. I decided on Lord Jim's - a seafood buffet.

gosh, it was wild.. all kinds of seafood.. lobsters, crabs, sashimi - salmon, my fav yellow tail, tuna, tempura, prawns, foie gras, beef, crepes... there was so much food and oooh the mango juice was great... not to mention that there was a view of the river to boot..i spent an obscene amt of money on that lunch but it's ok. i can claim.

the following morning when keeve came, we went to chinatown to check out some cheapo dim sum and birds' nest... we found 15 baht/long dim sum.. that works out to be a whopping S$0.60 per long!!!! we whacked for a grand total of S$20!!! muahhahahaha

then we braved the rain and bad bangkok traffic to find the bird's nest shop recommended by the dim sum fellas... we found it eventually and though it didnt feel so exhilarating as S$0.60/long dim sum, it was good too. we chose the grade 4 (the lowest grade) bird nest with longan for S$8 only!!.. it was so good i wanted to have another bowl, till keeve reminded me that eat a lot will have nose bleed.

here's a pic of the S$8 Grade 4 bird's nest

the quest for good food never ends and by the afternoon, we were out shopping and i told him i wanted Dunkin Donuts... and we both remembered that there used to be one shop near our house...we eventually found one... sheer ecstasy..

i wanted to take a pic of the donuts in the shelves but was stopped.

i eventually took a pic of me and the donuts in the exact pose i was in when i was in Bangkok with audrey back in 2001... exact some pose.

Sob

my faithful lappie dieded on Saturday morning..says fan error... gosh, i was crushed.. i thought of the many good times we spent together over the past 5 years.. yes 5 years..my heart aches.

I hope to be able to bring it down to SLS during the weekend to save it.

=(

Purchases

I didnt really buy much things la.. but duno how i spent so much also.. i think most are company expenses..

things i bought:

1) 3 shirts from the tailor
2) Bak Hu stuff
3) Hair gel

the hair gel was a good buy.. ordinarily, it'd cost me S$34 a tube.. but i managed to get 4 tubes of these Schwarzkopf sealed ends hair gel for S$16 each.. that's a whopping saving of 50% each.. i bought 4 tubes.. keke...

here they are on my dresser..it's going to be a long time before i buy them in spore again..

Bangkok

And so i went to Bangkok for work right? thought i could extend my work trip and take 2 days of leave to take advantage of my company paying the air tix. moreover, i needed to clear some leave. I now have 20 days of leave to clear before the end of 2005 after taking 2 days for Bangkok.

i asked my buddy Keeve if he wanted to go. i only asked him cos since he's a freelancer, he can take off anytime... he was on on on all the way till sunday night (i left on monday). ok lor.. i go myself...

so i thought i'd jus stay for one extra day and come back on thursday. Then the genius called me on wednesday noon... "Would u kill me if i told u im flying in tonight?"

ooook... strange turn of events.. suddenly, i have a shortage of undewear, shortage of tee shirts, shortage of berms... oh well, it shld be fun...

in a strange twist of events, one of the lights in my room blew while i was waiting for keeve to come.. then the repair dude came but ended up blowing the fuse and the entire room short circuited...the duty manager called me n said she had to move me to another room...an idea came to me and I pretended to be really irritated by this move.. and since i was a guest of the hotel, i kinda kicked up a lil fuss and demanded them to change me to a room with 2 twin beds instead of the current king size one that i have now.. she must be wondering how come i want a smaller bed but well.. i didnt have to share the bed with keeve that night.

we moved to another cheaper hotel the next day cos my company didnt wana pay for my hotel stay while i was on holiday..

Back

Im back home if you havent noticed..

it's nice to be back. despite any suite in a five-star hotel or wat not, my room beats them all hands down...

more pics on my bkk pics will come soon.. stay tuned.. all 6 of you...:)

Welcome my 6th fan

Women.. vicious

I think women are vicious.. very very scary creatures.. the more i find out abt them, the more i think they're scary... they can be very cold blooded when they want to.

Incident #1

Pregnant woman enters the MRT.. in my unexpert opinion, she's probably 5 or 6 mths pregnant. she wriggles to the area of the train where the 2-seaters are..u know.. where it's near the door and also near the in-between of carriages.. so she stands in front of the 2 seats (occupied). I peered over to see who was sitting in front of her... 2 middle age women.. they look like they dont know each other.. n then one pretended to sleep n then the other suddenly seemed terribly interested in her newspaper. i was like "Gosh!! i'd have thought women would be more sympathetic to a pregnant woman." not being sexist here but gosh.. so appalling.. i had half the mind to squeeze all the way there n ask one of them to stand up.. but i bo ji...

Incident #2

my colleague and i were at a very busy busy hawker centre and he found a table where the people seemed to be finishing. so he stood there, like all good singaporeans do when they wana urge others to eat faster. i was a distance away when i saw him do it and as i walked twds him, something strange happened. 2 middle age women (could have been the same one i saw on the MRT i swear) jus stood right beside him n managed to "squeeze" him away and then sit down when the people finished eating... and being the gentle person my colleague was, he found himself and us without a table.. when i reached him, he said to me " hey man, i dont know how come the women squeezed me out". Little did he know that there was an accomplice..a third aunty who overheard this.

subsequently, when i passed their table after buying my table, i saw them all staring and pointing at me as though i committed some heinous crime against them like that.. gosh...

p.s: i love woman.. A LOT.. but these 2 incidents over a span of 2 days jus puts me off... jus a lil... really little..really.

Ice Cream

There is:

1)4 pints of Haagan Daz
2)2 pints of Ben & Jerry's
3)1 block of raspberry ripple ice cream ( those u buy by the side of Orchard Rd)
4) 5 sticks of red bean Potong ice cream

in my fridge right now.

so much ice cream, so little time to eat.. muhahahaha.. everyone in my family has different likes for ice cream.. so everyone has their own thing.. No. 3 is from my neighbour who sells ice cream outside East Point.. so we can get buy entire blocks of ice cream wholesale. it's probably just slightly cheaper but it's always a wow factor when i see it in the fridge...

Soccer Soccer

and so i went for my weeekly soccer game today. to my dismay, there was a group of young punks playing there liao.. nvm lor.. play against them.. since my side had more ple, we got one of our guys to be the ref.

as usual, i played the striker.. (natural choice, with my high strike rate and lightning speed.. muahahhahahaha). twds the end of the first half, we were up by 3-2.. then suddenly this young punk ah beng complains to the ref that i stepped on them with my studs.. i was like "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT". felt like telling him " you first time playing soccer ah? play soccer once in a while will step on you one mah.. then everyone wearing soccer boots so will kenna the studs lor.. cannot take it then jus diam and get out la.."

but i didnt. had to maintain some composure.

so the ref tells him cool it..ok.. everyone cool it and play proper.. i said "sure.. tell me when i step on u "

young punk is not happy then huffs away.. ref not happy, yelled to him " eh boy, u not happy is it. not happy then walk off, dont give me attitude"

thus, the most hilarious thing happened.. the ref started arguing with the young punk!!! hahah.. so funny.. i had to go in n diffuse the situation but they were still at it. that was dumb.. haha..

stoopig ah beng.. if he argued some more, the last thing he needed to worry was my studs on his feet. it'd be in his mouth!!!! muhaahahha

does that mean he kenna "Foot in Mouth disease"? hahahahha.. dumb ass

Welcome my fifth fan

this post is dedicated to the fifth person i told abt my blog..

and i made her promise to read all of it, from the start and im going to pose questions to her abt it.. muhahah..

this one's for u!

Bali bombing

the idiots did it again.. bombed bali again.. exactly 3 years to the month since the last time they did it.

i cant rem if i posted here but i was jus in bali last month and i was at the two locations that were bombed.. the Matahari Square Shopping Centre, which was near where i bought my Oakleys and the Four Seasons Resort.. gosh i even met some dudes from FS leh... will definitely drop him an email to find out how're things.. but i wonder how shld i phrase it..

" hey man, heard 2 bombs went off in bali.. and one of them near ur place.. so how man.. everything ok?"

i dont know.. it's somehow tough to inject emotion into business emails without sounding too colloquial.. oh well..

stoopig terrorists.. bomb here n there.. only make ple hate them more... ive heard some ple asking.. Indonesia is a muslim country how come the terrorists, presumably Islamic extremists, still bomb them leh?

well, that's cos Bali is predominantly a Hindu island.. so that's why the terrorists have less qualms on bombing there.. then of cos it's filled with rowdy ang mos so it's a good target... and i'd imagine logistically it'd be easier to ship tons of ammonium nitrate from other parts of indonesia to bali than to say, Spain.

rowdy ang mos.. gosh.. they were making helluva noise in the bars and restuarants when i was there.. and they were clearly australian cos they were all singing songs that talked abt Australia..

oh well, stupid terrorists.. go burn in hell.

Title-less

Man, i just checked my calendar.. there's a dinner at Lay Hong's tonight.. gosh, it WAS supposed to be a happening weekend.. should i go? i dont think so.. no mood for socialising.

so there you go.. that probably sums it up.. no mood to socialise then dont go, then no one invites u, then u get more no mood (english going downhill here), it's a vicious cycle.. gosh, this sounds like a conversation i had with keeve that day.. exactly the same..

sometimes, just sometimes, a brave soul would pluck the courage and ask u out and then ur life jus lights up. my buddies Fong n Keeve does that sometimes with invitations of supper, movies or mahjong...

i kinda lost my train of thought.. so i shall click the "Publish Post" button

Life.. what a sigh

Seems like i jinxed my good week by mentioning it... bleah..

i was just reading iRis' blog when i realised her life is rather similar to mine. Long working hours and spending long hours in front of the computer instead of going out. Whilst i'd like to think my situation is more acute than hers, she'd probably beg to differ.

in any case, it's a rainy sunday.. i thought i could go to the gym today then go for soccer in the evening.. then i also thought i could go shopping and engage in some retail therapy.. but the weather's sucky.. Would it be yet another fruitless day of dvd-ing? maybe.. most likely in fact.

this weekend was a melancholic one.. a cursory glance on my pda on thurs revealed a power packed weekend. dinner with uni frens on friday night, some seminar on sat morning, dinner@ millennia at night, gym and soccer on sunday.. then Oprah at night followed by The Apprentice n then Liverpool vs Chealsea.. what a wonderful weekend my pda predicted... NOT!!!

as it turned out, uni dinner was ooook only la.. seems like everyone stuck to their cliques and some ple not too happy with their jobs.. i was feeling rather jubilant, who am i kidding, i m feeling damn jubilant when i came cos i jus got a promotion and all so i was feeling happy.. but i didnt dare tell anyone except audrey, cos i was afriad that ple might say i show off.. so diam diam lor...

in the end, after a S$30 meal, i got a red bomb.. yet another red bomb.. sigh.. 2nd one this yr..

26 November is heating up man.. I have Juan Boon's wedding in the afternoon then ah MOOOOH's wedding at night.. heng juan boon's at wesley, no need to give so big ang pao.. maybe no need to give even.. muhahahaa... but ah MOOH would be a toughie...

26 November is also Christine's bday.. but there's nothing i need to do abt that.

come on guys, spread it up a little.. else i wouldnt have things to do for the rest of the other saturdays...

On hindsight, this week seems like a good week.. got a laptop, promotion, pay raise, met up with uni classmates.. there's still sunday tmr.. i hope i dont jinx my good week by saying this...

Promo!

I GOT PROMOTED!!! YAY!!! GOT A PAY RAISE TOO!!

after a whole turn of events, my boss called me into his office on friday and gave me the letter of promotion!!! gosh, so exciting.. it's my first ever promotion and man it feels great.. absolutely..

YIPPEE!! I was given a laptop by my company...it's an IBM one.. my fav brand.. gosh.. 1.7ghz, combo drive, 512mb RAM.. i dono why im so happy also.. with a laptop, i now have to carry it whenever i travel, whereas in the past, i can jus say "oops you didnt give me a laptop so dont expect me to work when im travelling". my colleague rightly said that it's a status thing la.. when u get a laptop, it's like u reached a certain level.. and yeah.. i guess that's why im happy.. and of cos it being an IBM jus adds to the jubilation.. muhahahaha

here's a pic of it while im working on the bed with my own ibm at the back... they look damn similar

Nerd, Geek or Dork???

Are you a nerd geek or simply a dork?? take this test to find out..

i think it's not very accurate.. it's says im a pure nerd... how can that be?? im so cool and cute...

" You scored better than half in Nerd, earning you the title of: Pure Nerd.

The times, they are a-changing. It used to be that being exceptionally smart led to being unpopular, which would ultimately lead to picking up all of the traits and tendences associated with the "dork." No-longer. Being smart isn't as socially crippling as it once was, and even more so as you get older: eventually being a Pure Nerd will likely be replaced with the following label: Purely Successful. "

Army Half Marathon

I'll be running the 6km fun run tmr at the Sheares Bridge Run/Army Half Marathon... i actually trained for the 21km AHM during my army days until i fractured my ankle.. which was quite sad cos i was kinda looking forward to running it... yeah i was pretty crazy then..

but well, after a haircut and a facial today to prepare for the run, i went down to safra to register for it...gosh, at S$8, the shirt is so chio lor and it's made of the same material (feels like la) as the Dri-Fit in nike shirts which they charge a bomb for...

so nice right...

i hope i dun die halfway.. hmm.. no, i prob wont die la.. hope i dont appear too shacked in front of the other runners...

Stoopig Sony earphones

bleah.. got this pair of Sony Ex-71 when i got my new ipod a couple of months back.. but cos of its rubbery material, many sections of it got torned.. sianz... here's a pic of the sorry state it has become..

my dear fren Aaron, offered to sell me his brand new Bang and Olufsen earphones which he got for his bday for S$160.. quite ex leh...

so i went to SPUG (no need hyperlink la hor) and asked... a couple of brands came up.. shure, audio-technia, etymotic.. all cost freaking more than a bomb lor..

but then someone found this lobang which gets us shure in-ear earphones quite cheaply.. so thus, we have an MO (= Mass Order, geekspeak for ordering a large quantity of geeky items in order to secure a discount to have more money in future to procure more geeky stuff)

here's a pic of what im getting.. i cant wait...

Red Bomb

i got a red bomb from my primary sch fren a few weeks ago. bleah.. sianz... it was a dumb way that i bumped into him abt a year ago and then he got my hp.

apparently, audrey and i were walking along Orchard when we saw this gal we looked super duper like our uni frend, but jus a fatter version.. then we realised it might be her twin sister whom we have heard abt. so i was eyeing her when the guy she was with jus yelled " XX!!!(replace XX with my chinese name)" . I was like hey!!! oh wow.. such a coincidence hor.. wah.. her sister is our uni fren.. blah blah..

and now he invited me to their wedding...

suntec ballroom 3, next week..

i asked my dear frens in SPUG how much ang bao to give... seems like it's S$80 - S$100.... no prizes for guessing how much im gg to give eh..

i was told some sec 1 and 2 frens would be there...gosh... so so so long ago.. almost 10 years never see them liaoz leh..

i wonder what i'm going to wear... my blue suit or my black suit

Week of Buffets II

8 Sept finally came. i went to the gym in the morning in preparation of the sinful gorging we would have in the afternoon.

the lunch was booked for 5.. for the ple in the office who werent travelling. S couldnt go cos she had to make an overseas call. so H went.

Sashimi came hard and fast.. salmon, tuna, sotong, yellow tail, salmon belly, snapper..so much sashimi, so little stomach space.. then there was tempura, soba, japanse curry, more tempura..

in between the whacking and gorging and stuffing, H announced that he was leaving the company. it wasnt exactly new news cos we all kind new but jus not official... now that he announced liao then can talk abt it openly lor... i was kinda sad he was leaving cos he really really taught me a lot when i joined the company and the times we went to hong kong and bangkok on assignment were so fun.

*ok the last line sounded gay but i dun care*

back to the more important thingy...we jus whacked and whacked lor..haha.. but when it came to pay, H whipped out the company credit card and said " i made an announcement today, so this is technically an official lunch. so can claim".

WOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

i saved S$35!! hahahahahhha kio dio!!!

now we all wonder wat S would say.. cos she does the accounts and she'll certainly not be very happy that we claimed that lunch n she didnt go..

muhahahahhahaha

so great to leave on a bang like this (at least it was a bang for me). like ORD mood in army like that.

Week of Buffets I

My colleagues A and M were in a craving for some jap food and i suggested this highly recommended jap restaurant, Ioki in Miramar Hotel. i never went there before but i heard it's quite good and you have to book 1 mth in advance to book for dinner. so we decided to go for lunch instead. we booked 8 sept.

but on 7 sept, we felt hungry and quite sian at work. they asked me for a suggestion. i said how abt dim sum... their eyes lit up!! haha. bunch of greedy shits.. but where to find a lunch buffet for dim sum.. lo and behold.. i remembered my classmates and i went to this miramar restaurant (not to be mistaken with the jap one).. i went for both.

at the back of my mind, i knew i had to go gym the next morning...

Gym-ing

after that aaron's mum, who has probably never seen me for 20 years, said i was fat, i just felt so... sian... (for lack of a better word).

i decided to be serious this time and get down to some gym-ing and toning and some semblence of a healthy lifestyle. And since i work such horrendous hours, i decided a good time would be to go to the gym early in the morning before going to work.

so there i went, for the last 2 weeks, i was in the gym by 7am on tuesdays and thursdays.. hitting the threadmill, then weights, then threadmill again and crunches..i duno if i lost any weight, since i dont have a weighing machine at home. but i do feel a little ligher. Maybe it's jus pyschological.. and well, whatever works eh...
