Bad Bad Day

Today's a bad bad bad day... I have am uber huge huge ulcer in my mouth, my neck is stiff and aching, my head hurts, my eyes are itchy and it's a busy busy day...

After some prodding by Noah, I squeezed some time to go to the doc who used a cotton bug that was dipped with some acidic liquid n pressed HARD on my ulcer. It was so painful that i teared. but it felt damn good after that. then i got painkillers for my head n back ache and eye drops for my eyes (DUH!). i was told not to drip too much else the eye drops contained steroids..wonder if my eye muscles will be stronger after the steriods conditioning..

And i did something good today, so tat was a mini highlight, for me at least.

Small Small World Again

I was out shopping with Goddess when was waiting for her while she was in the changing room. I was day dreaming and was noticing a couple of wearing berms in Orchard Road.. And i remembered that Julia.. yes.. Ms Julia Chen wasnt the biggest fan of me wearing berms to Orchard some nine years ago.. and nine years later, Im now in a pair of berms still.. albeit now in a polo tee..

As we were walking out of the shop, guess who i bumped into??

Muhahahahahah... 9 years of not seeing her and 3 minutes after i thought of her and there she was. We made some small talk and then left. I was still pretty shell shocked for quite a while after. Amazing really...

Clients

Talking abt my clients, they're a pretty funny bunch. All around my age. We went out for dinner the last time i was in Bangkok. They come from all over the world. 1 american, 1 singaporean, one hongkie.

the american was very excited to know i was Singaporean cos he said he trying to learn Singlish from the singaporean colleague. "It's a very unique language that uses English words in weird combinations," he said. And he said that the whole of Singapore would understand it if we heard it.

He asked " Cornball, if you and I were in a bar and we saw a girl walk past. If I told you ' the girl C.M.I', would you understand it?"

Me: Yes of cos.

He totally cracked up man.. i didnt really understand what the fuss was abt but he was totally laughed n laughed and was utterly amazed that two singaporeans meeting in bangkok would understand "Cannot Make It". haha.. maybe the effect is lost when i type it out in a blog but it was a totally funny scene.

Then he asked me what does "KNN" mean? (KNN <~~ for my young impressionble readers, is a very very bad hokkien expletive. It's so bad that im not spelling it out in full, even though the question was asked to me in perfect hokkien diction.."KNN". We'll jus stick to the acronyms).

Needless to say, i was shocked to hear it over the dinner table.

Then he asked " What is "CCB"? (CCB <~~ for my young impressionble readers, is another very very bad hokkien expletive. It's so bad that im not spelling it out in full, even though the question was asked to me in perfect hokkien diction.."CCB". We'll jus stick to the acronyms).

I asked him how come he knew these words and how to pronounce them so accurately some more..

Then he said the Singaporean colleague always muttered these words when he received some emails.

Then the Singapore dude explained that their office all americans, he didnt wana swear using the "f" word, so he jus swears in hokkien where no one understands.

Muhahaha...

Then the american dude told me in a whisper " And he(singaporean dude) tells me.. KNN is quite vulgar, CCB is also quite vulgar.. but if you combine them, i.e KNNBCCB.. now, that's the ultimate hokkien vulgar word"

That cracked me up.

Bangkok After All

It seems like I'm going to Bangkok after all. Flying on Thursday noon. Presentation on Friday morning n flying back on Friday noon. My clients actually asked me to stay on on Friday cos they wana ask me some questions. But i told them i got wedding dinner. Hee hee..Dont know if they'll buy it.

Last Two Weeks - Part Deux

I've split the post cos i was very eager to click the "Publish Post" button.

My sister kenna-ed shingles this week. After a hoo-ha, she got a one week MC. Shiok leh.. I expressed my envy to her and i think she thinks im mocking her. haha. It's nice mah.. MC for one week. Maybe a bit painful la.. but gd rest. I wished i also have one week MC.. stricken with an illness that is not life-threatening, requires quarantine, painless and also with comes with long MC. That'd be perfect. Of cos I can simply apply for leave la. Nvr applied more than 2 days leave for almost 2 yrs now. I really should. Maybe i'll take it in June for the World Cup. Mahjong anyone?

I cant rem if I blogged this but Gay #1 from my company is leaving.. I actually knew 2 mths ago cos my boss told me.. then Gay #1 told me one mth ago.. told me it was time for me to step up cos once he leaves, ill be the person who's second longest in the company, second only to my boss, who only leads me by 4 mths.. Im actually pretty excited but i wonder if i can ever step into those shoes at this moment.. he's Vice President leh.. and im but a lowly ASSociate. So i was half glad when i got a new colleague last week. Half glad cos at least i have some time to learn n lie in the shadows before pouncing out.. half not glad cos now i have a new superior. At 30+ years old, she has some experience in prob 35.75% of wat we do.. and she still needs some learning.

She used to be the manager of one of my classmates in her previous company and so one of those small talks i had with her was to ask how he was etc...During the week, i did this particular thingy and my boss asked me to dbl check with her (cos its the 35.75% that she knows). She said she not very familiar. I was utterly shocked really. So i thought this was too lowly for her n she didnt do this very often. I offered to call my friend (her ex colleague) to ask him for pointers but she said he doesnt even come close to do these.

Then i said "So who does this?"

She said "My (former) boss lor. This is complicated stuff".

I was disappointed cos it seems i cant learn much from her. but i was also elated to do things that my other classmates dont get to do. you guys know how i love to be one up right? no no.. Many many up even better. hahahaha

Anyway, i was given the mission to edit her report before it goes out next week. I'm feeling evil all of a sudden.

Last Two Weeks

Ok la.. since it's a lazy sunday evening, i thought i'd blog abt my last two weeks..

The week before this week was pretty interesting cos i was relatively free...

I was at the tailor on Wednesday, wanted to get a new shirt for shortbin's wedding but realise it wont get done before her wedding.. too bad then..

Met up with Audrey on Thursday and we had dinner at the Fullerton. The Town was a great restaurant by the river to have dinner. The prices werent that crazy too.. even cheaper than Prego's which i had the night before. We then proceeded to the Post Bar for some drinks...we had a good chat.. a very good one in fact. After that, we came to a conclusion. At least i did... i.e. not to bother with people who do not appreciate you. Those ple who only msn you or call you when they need your help or when they wana ask u something. And at all other times, they just ignore you..Well, screw you.. screw you all...

*After reading the paragraph, i just wanted to clarify that the person in question is not Audrey.. haha*

I wasnt in the most social mood the entire long weekend really... so when dax and aaron asked me for supper at Serangoon i told them too far la.. lazy... they were golfing at Bkt Timah.. n then they drove down to Bedok BCM to meet me.. say 6 mths nvr see me liao.. gosh i didnt realise it was so long ago. Anyway, I told dax to shut down my website.. no more blessed anymore. it's time to move on.

Played mahjong the next day.. the best combi of mahjong.. keeve, yokie and shitfong.. this is the group which doesnt really care abt winning or losing money but just playing for the fun, the mental stimulation, the gossiping.. yummy.. we did some gossiping on yokie's new bf when she went to the toilet. That's why we keep giving her water, really.

And on Sunday, i played badm..I like to play badm.

So, it was a weekend when i practically met all my friends.

I just received news that I have to fly up to Bangkok on Thursday to do a presentation and fly back on Friday evening. BUT! Shortbin's wedding is on Friday night...

I guess I'll try to send someone else... or rther beg someone else to go..

For some reason, he decides to call us the A-Team, presumably to make us feel better abt ourselves. He hasnt nvr used the term before.

I replied with a pic.

He replied:

"I am surprised you remembered as it was such a long time ago – thought it was the previous generating thingy ;)"

Round Trip

This trip was actually a tiring one cos I actually travelled to Hua Hin from Bangkok which was a 3 hour car ride...didnt really stay in a fantastic hotel in Hua Hin..but the interesting thing was that my room had a balconey which led to the pool.. my colleagues and I even went for a swim in the evening. Actually I didnt wana go for a swim la.. cos i didnt have my trunks and also cos i felt fat.. then my angmo colleague offered to lend me his trunks... i was like ewwwwwwwwwwwwwl.. i decided to go swim in my surf shorts in the end. When i went, i realised the angmo definition of trunks is surf shorts. No wonder he didnt find it disgusting to lend me his..

The next day, we drove to Pattaya, which was a 5 hr car ride away...slept all the way inside..the rooms was great! Once again, it had a balconey that led to the pool..

Arrived at Bangkok yesterday morning... shacked.. here's where Im staying.







This is actually the first hotel i ever stayed with on assignment almost 1.5 years ago and there's a sense of deja vu.. so much has happened between these 1.5 years.. one thing hasnt changed.. the donuts still taste great!

Short Note

Hmm.. as i get more free, i actually get to see daylight more often. So i decide to go for long lunches and being the anti-social freak that i am.. i just made up some excuses to not lunch with my colleagues.. i went amoy yesterday and today.

And then i went home at 6:30pm yesterday..i saw Yokie queueing to enter a crowded mrt train.. i gave a loud "ah beng" sound that is produced by pouting ur lips n sucking loudly.. she saw me..and she told me later that Jieying (the gal who likes the "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt) and Jonnah was also inside the train..

And then today i did a "brokeback" and went movie with keeve.. bumped into an old army fren and made some small talk..and then bumped into Goddess when we were in opposite directions on the escalator.

And in the movie theatre, we sat beside this guy who was keeve's sec sch fren who is also my army fren.. and we bitched abt the irritating green color gal who appeared in the MM dialouge..well, the green gal is frm my jc.. muhahaha... small world.

I guess i'll meet more ple if i dun go work at 7am and leave at 11pm..

Shanghai Knight

I just found out that I'd be going to Shanghai for my conference next week. It's a conference that is organised by my company and we started since last year. But all the while, dont know who'd be going. At the back of my mind, i think i'd be going and i even made a new shirt for the cocktails and all. there were some issues on some of the newbies wana go but too expensive. See, this year we decided we are going to have it at the tallest and most expensive hotel in Shanghai and therefore it's damn ex..

Basically going there is lobo one.. just eat and eat and sometimes shake hands and collect name cards. I prob gave out 100 last yr. so everyone is the office is clamouring to go...So when i got my flight details to Shanghai, i knew that i shouldnt be eating too much between now and next week.

Then i heard that after shanghai, i'll be going to Phuket and Koh Samui... so cool.. i never go before.

Running Nose

I was having a slight cold in the office today and my nose was totally dripping..

My boss sent me this email..

"Hey,

Culturally the expatriates beside you would get a heart attack seeing the tissue in your nose :)"

My Day

It was a relatively relaxed day today. Im enjoying the fruits of the "supervisory" role. Farmed out most of my reports and the newbies are doing them. My boss asked me how come they so slow. Maybe i shld rein them in a little. One of them in particular is damn fast on clicking here n clicking there. I mean, he even clicks around faster than ME!! THAN ME LEH!! how can he click faster than the Head of IT Services, Asia?? Anyway, i let him be la.. if it pleases him.. and he loves to open lots Excel files at the same time. Just this morning I saw him with 13 Excel files and 5 word files opened at the same time. I told him that it'a a tad too many.. he mumbled something and then suddenly Excel CRASHED!!!!!

OUCH man..

Late that evening, i opened one of the files to check the progress.. but the contents didnt make sense. I asked him why and i saw his angmo white face turn whiter than it already is. I never thought i could see it happen but it did. Well, apparently when it crashed in the afternoon, he accidentally overwrote the recovered files.

OUCH!

Both my shittybank credit cards recently got upgraded to M1 Gold and Dividend Platinum. The former is cos i charge almost S$300 of hp bills per month.. and the latter is simply cos i spend too much per month n they upgraded me.

I wanted to apply for a supp card for my mum and asked her which one she wanted. I showed her the platinum one and then the gold one.. She pointed to the gold one..

"The silver looking one is platinum leh"

"Wah.. then i want the platinum one"

"So which one u want? gold or platinum?"

"Both".

my mum's as materialistic as me. :(
