Mongolia
My colleague recently went to Mongolia for her holiday/community service work. She sent me her pics and they look gorgeous.

Mating and Dating
In the last 2 weeks, there has been an increase in the number of people who are trying to matchmake me or introduce gals to me.
1. My sister and some friends
2. Uni friend
3. Some colleagues in the office
4. My CEO
Really kinda weird with this deluge of interests in my singlehood. Haha..
But today really took the cake. When I came back from lunch today, I saw this in my keyboard.

A pocket book on dating, which my colleague got for me.
And in it, there are 10 pick up lines, which my colleague gamely blew it up to A3 and is now hanging on my cubicle.

So Loose
China Again
It’s that period of time when I’m starting to plan for my trip. I went to borrow this book to read on those long lonely nights/flights. Looks quite interesting.

I’ll be going to Shanghai, Tianjin and Chengdu. Once again, the drudgery of travelling within China is going to overwhelm me and I hope I don’t get depressed. I hope I am a little more well prepared this time. I’ll be bringing the book I mentioned above, some dvds to watch, my PSP. I’ve also learnt that I don’t need so many clothes, since I can laundry them.
I really don’t know the purpose of this post. I’m quite bored at work and someone just gave me a cake.

Phone
I havent been so anticipative for a yet-to-be-launched phone for such a long time now that i cant remember when was the last.
But i'm eagerly waiting for the Blackberry Bold.

I've been carrying both my Nokia 8800 and big fat company issued Blackberry around wherever I go, it's not even funny.
With this new BB Bold, i can merge the two devices and still look cool and:
1. Check my mails
2. Use the BB MSN Messenger and be connected on MSN wherever i go
3. BB Messenger, where i can msg my friends who are on BB too
4. Check my schedule
5. Have my contacts in my single location.
So, i cannot wait for its launch.

I had a presentation in town on Saturday, which meant that i couldnt go for my weekly badminton game.
At first we'd thought it was a small presentation and then as it turned out, it was major big and a few online newsletters ran the event and the organisers even had my profile and pic on their website. This was actually part of the reason i had my photoshoot.
Turnout was pretty decent and i met quite a few "ardent fans", as someone put it. But most of them were males. Bleah.
The organisers gave me this as a gift.

Which was pretty odd, cos i got something like thing from Bangkok that day and thought it was a tad small. But the new red one's huge!

Anyway, they also gave me free parking at the hotel and i decided to go shop around.
Bought this book cos i heard from someone it was good.

I hope Lim Biskit didnt borrow it, cos the last time i bought an autobiography, she borrowed it and hasnt returned it.

Sleep
For some reason I havent been getting good sleep of late.
I keep dreaming. This week i kept dreaming of my colleagues. Sometimes i think i think too much. Bleah.
I've asked around and it seems like at some point of time, everyone would have had that dream when they're naked and walking around. I mentioned this to someone that day and she thought i was being rude.
In any case, I googled it and found this article:
One of the most common dreams around the world is the one in which the dreamer is naked. Dreams of being naked can have several interpretations, and the nakedness in the dream can manifest itself in a number of different ways.
In some naked dreams, the dreamer is simply going about his or her own business, commuting to work driving in the car, walking around the neighborhood, etc. In many cases, the dreamer is completely unaware of his or her nakedness and not at all bothered by it.
In other cases, the dreamer is aware of his or her nakedness but no one else seems to notice at all. While the dreamer may be conscious of the nakedness, everyone else just goes on about their business and make no comments. These types of dreams are often manifestations of the dreamer's fears. Often the dreamer has fears that he or she worries may be uncovered. Dreams in which no one but the dreamer notices the nakedness are often indications that the fears bothering the dreamer are unfounded, and that no one else is concerned about them.
On the other hand, dreams in which the dreamer suddenly becomes mortified at realizing he or she is naked often indicate vulnerability, fear or shame. In many cases, the dreamer is hiding a secret or hiding something that he or she is afraid will be found out. The nakedness in the dream indicates a fear that other people see through you and will discover your secrets.
In dreams, clothes can represent concealment and hiding, so being stripped of clothes can mean being left defenseless and exposed. The dream may be trying to tell you that you think you are hiding something, but that everyone else already knows about it. This is one of the most common forms of the naked dream.
Being naked in a dream can also indicate fear of being caught off guard. For instance, many people dream that they are suddenly naked at work or at school. As a matter of fact, the dream of being suddenly naked in a classroom before taking a test is one of the most frequently studied dreams. This kind of nakedness usually symbolizes fear of being unprepared for a situation at school or work, such as an important project at work or an exam at school.
Often times these dreams of nakedness at work or school coincide with events in real life. For instance, you may dream of being naked at the office right before that big project is due, or before you are due to make that big presentation. These types of dreams can be especially common among those who feel they are unprepared for the challenge. Likewise, students who feel they have not studied sufficiently for any exam often dream of being in the exam room naked and exposed.
Sometimes these types of dreams to not coincide with real events. Rather they may simply be manifestations of a more generalized fear of being caught unaware, or of being unprepared for the challenges of life.
Other naked dreams with similar meanings involve being naked and standing in front of a crowd. Since nakedness and public speaking are two of the most common fears in the world, this combination can be mortifying, even in a dream. Being naked in front of a crowd can symbolize a fear of being exposed, a fear of being unprepared, or a fear that those around you know things about you they are not telling you about.
One of the rarer types of dream nakedness is where the dreamer realizes he or she is naked but shows no fear, shame or embarrassment. This type of naked dream can be a symbol of freedom and unrestrained exuberance. This kind of dream can indicate that the dreamer has nothing to hide and is proud of his or her life. In this case, the nakedness in the dream can be a positive thing - symbolizing openness, honesty and a trusting and carefree sense of life.

Boo Boo
As mentioned here, i got into a mini accident with my car the night before i left for Bangkok.
I havent told many people the story. Thought i'd just say it here so that i dont have to keep repeating.
I was turning out of this very small exit which had higher than usual kerbs. It's those kerbs that are outside terrace houses, which you can sit on. Anyway, the kerb hit my right sideskirt and as I tried to move front, move back, move left or move right, i either dug deeper or even got my wheel stuck.
I have some diagrams for illustration purposes. This is the plane and elevation views.

As i mentioned here, drawing isnt my forte.
There was no direction to go.
My friend, whom i was with, started to take out a piece of paper and started to draw out my options, i.e. what would happen if i moved left forward, right forward, left backward, right backwards. She didnt want to give me her "quadrant of options" after it so i have reproduced it here. I made up some of the options as i forgot what she wrote.

I thought it was quite an odd way to try to solve my problem so we can actually talk about it rather than draw it. And it wasnt as if either of the four options offered a solution.
I went to the nearby petrol station to see if it had a tow truck or something but the car service portion was closed.
Just then a guy walked past and said that he had some guys who can help lift up my car. So he went to get them. Turns out they were a group of Bangladeshis who were working for this guy to move house and they were loading furniture onto a pickup.
In 3 mins, the four of them lift my car up and out of the kerb which had by now dug into my poor right side skirt.
I bought them drinks and the guy went on to where he was originally going to: to pee at the nearby petrol station.
Sometimes you can look at all directions and the right way is to look up.

New Camera
As mentioned here, my camera's screen cracked en route to Bangkok.
I was actually very sad as it has followed me since July 2005. I still remember hurrying to buy it before And ever since my first maiden Maldives trip, it has followed me to all my trips. Accompanying me through hills and valleys. Quite sad really.
I bought a replacement the other day before D&D. Got this retro-look one. It's so retro that the flash will pop up when needed!

Sheares Bridge Run
GPS
Keeve passed me this GPS device so that i can try it out.

Saturday was a busy day for me. I went for facial, went to do my 15k servicing, went to collect my shirt for the Sheares Bridge Run on 24 August and then went for my badminton at Geylang.
For some reason, when the voice of the GPS says "left", i kept hearing it was "right". And i found that sometimes i just blindly followed the instructions i misheard even though i was quite sure of the way. After some wrong turns, i made it a point to listen more carefully.
All those places I went to were familiar places but I used the GPS a lot, simply cos i wanted to find the most efficient way the GPS thought. There were times when it told me to go a particular route but i decided that my route was better and ignored the GPS. And on hindsight, the GPS was right. Its Way was the better Way. And on the occasions when I followed the GPS, I found out new routes.
A seemingly innocuous device but it taught me valuable lessons on listening carefully and also relying on a higher authority for directions in both life and journeys.
So who is your GPS in life?

D&D Afterthoughts
I’m sure by now everyone’s waiting for a D&D update given the amount of attention I showered on it during the leadup to the event.
It actually turned out very fun! The opening act was from the D&D organiser doing a solo act with “Carman”. Very hot very saucy. Some of the directors didn’t know who that was at the start.
My item with the HODs were a disaster really. They forgot their lines and then mis sang the order of the chorus and the verses cos it’s actually sang in the same way for that song. So that was bad… at some point it got so bad that they were singing differently from the lyrics flashed on the screen. Haha.. but it was quite funny for the audience and after reviewing the vids, I thought I totally looked the part of the Mexican with my guitar.
And then I also was nominated to be part of ManHunt contest. After strutting my stuff on the cat walk, I was asked what superpower I’d like and why.
I said “World Peace”
Diao.
“But world peace isn’t a power. Give me a real answer”
“I’d like to be able to fly. So that I don’t have to pay erp.”
I thought that was quite funny. But I didn’t win the contest. If it were a Man Chunk contest, I’d have won.
So in the end, I literally was on stage the most number of times, once for my item, once for Man Hunt, once for winning a lucky draw.
Brought back the following items:
Burberry scarf from lucky draw, door gift was a foldable bag, bottle of wine from table games and photo frame from manhunt.

Most importantly, food was good too.

Weeeeird
It's obviously D&D tonight. The office was half empty by 4pm. All the gals went to start making out up. Most of the men are still here. There's an unofficial knock off time at 5pm for people to go prepare but I guess when you have a D&D once every 7 years, people are excited.
I heard one colleague tell another that she wanna go jog one round or two around the building or go to the gym downstairs for an hour.
Why?
So that she can have dinner tonight at the D&D. Cos she normally doesn’t eat dinner.
Gosh.. that’s really scary man.

D&D
It's the D&D tomorrow and I cant sleep.
I actually switched off my computer to go to sleep. Then i realised i havent packed the stuff for my costume. My boss's PA has been more than helpful in my choices. At first she suggested i do italian mafia cos i am wearing a suit, so just have to get a hat.
Then when she saw me with the guitar during the rehearsal, she came to me and told me maybe i can be a mexican. So there i go... i went to rent a poncho and a sombrero hat (with the S$50 subsidy from my company), it came down to S$3.50.
The poncho is actually a huge carpet, so i have to wear something under. Duno what to wear really. Ended up choosing a black long sleeve shirt and jeans. Duno if i can pass off the look. Doubt many mexicans wear hugo boss shirts and armani jeans under their rented ponchos. Wahahahaha
Then i had to pack my capo and my picks for my guitar. The capo is really to bring up my guitar by 2 semi-tones cos the key was too low. I think the HODs are having difficulty with the lower key. But then again, it could be cos some of them cant really sing.
Incidentally, the song they are singing is "I'd like to teach the world to sing"
I saw a tee on my BKK trip with these words on it.

Actually, due to my BKK trip, the HODs couldnt rehearse till today when im back. The D&D chairman was quite anxious and was quite glad i was back. I wrote an apology email to everyone and attached the above picture and said "I've attached a picture I took on my trip to prove that I was thinking of you all when I was away."
D&D organiser said she's going to put the pic on the screen during the entry of the HODs.
!!!!!
I hope i dont cock up tmr man. It's 1:30am now and i cant sleep

Bangkok
I was in Bangkok on 9-12 August. First holiday in almost 2 years. This time I went with some of the people I’ve known for the longest time in my life. It’s quite possibly the 10th time I’ve gotten to Bangkok.
Surely all these are great ingredients for a wonderful holiday.
But I had several things troubling me. Plus work kept coming in. Plus the fact that when I reached my hotel, I found that my cam screen was cracked. Sianz.
I did manage to buy some things, including a nice bag for badminton and a wrist band and a nike shirt for badminton. I think I’m obsessed about badminton. It’s literally the highlight of my week and now that I play badminton twice a week, I get two highlights per week.
On a sad note, I went out for dinner with a friend on Friday night, before my trip and banged up my car quite badly. I’m very sad cos 11 August marked the 1 year birthday of my car. So sad.

Why?
Why do we hammer ourselves everyday?
So that we feel better when it stops.
Sometimes you do something silly, knowing that the outcome might not be what you hope. But sometimes it just feels so right.

Litterings
I am sometimes given weird but interesting things in the office.
On Monday morning one of the aunties in the office gave me a blueberry muffin which he daughter baked. It looked very very oddly grey. But it was very nice!

I’m one of the youngest people in the office. Plus there seem to be quite a number of hainanese aunties. So they actually pamper me somewhat and give me a cup of tea when they’re making a pot. And for some reason, it tastes very similar to the tea my mum makes me every morning.
This morning I got this stress reducing squeeze-ball that is shaped like a brain. I really think it’s kinda weird cos why do you want to squeeze your brain when you want to reduce stress. Obviously not much thought went into making these.

Maybe Too Gay
When my ex-boss was in New York a couple of months ago, he emailed me to say that he thought of the times we spent in New Orleans. And then he said he missed me.
Then that day when he sacked his PA, he called me at night cos he said he needed someone to talk to.
Then just now, he msged me to say that he's having dinner in the Maldives, with a colleague. And it reminded him of the time we had dinner in the Maldives.
It was a bit too gay for me.

Die & Die
Like I mentioned earlier, this is my first D&D.
There was an email sent out earlier to form tables. That caught me by surprise cos I don’t know many people in the company to form a 12-man table. Plus the people I report to will sit with their families. And the only person I really bitch to/chat with is in the D&D committee so wont sit with me.
So I was alone.
Then someone, who already has a table, offered to help me find some people to form a table. I was fine with that help.
As the search to place people at my table went on and on, some people agreed but when they heard that XX and YY were sitting at my table, they didn’t want. And when XX heard that someone didn’t like her sitting at the same table, XX got pissed.
This was some serious D&D politics that I was not used to. I only hope that less than 12 people sit at my table. So that I can eat more.
The D&D has a international theme. Company’s sponsoring S$50 per person for costumes, which is a cool S$16,000 in total if everyone took the offer. I was more than happy to just wear a suit and be done with it. Then some of the people I sit nearby suggested that I wear a Chinese Emperor costume and they’d be my concubines. That’s 4 concubines! And they suggested some of the fags in my office be the eunuchs.
I must have appeared really bored and not doing much work as I typed this in the office cos the organiser of the D&D walked past my table and I smiled at her and she asked me to go to her office.
For some reason, she thinks/knows I’m musically inclined and asked me to choreograph the HODs’ song item for the D&D. I was like wat the …. So yeah, I had to stop blogging for an hour just now so think how im going to get these dudes to sing properly. In the end, I was arrowed to play the guitar as well. Things are just happening too fast for me on a Friday.

Fed (up) at Raffles
Goddess was kind enough to buy me dinner last night to celebrate my birthday.
I typically don’t like people to buy me dinner cos I eat a lot and I feel bad for others having to pay for my binges. So I either eat less and not enjoy myself or just simply pay for myself.
She was insistent that I choose a location and hinted strongly that she had a Feed at Raffles card that gave a 50% discount if you buy 2 food items.
I chose the Equinox cos I liked the view.
There was this set meal thingy for steaks that was accompanied with one choice from various potatoes AND one choice from various sauces AND one choice from various vegetables. Quite worth it. But there was only a 20% discount from the card as it’s a promotion. We decided to go with it anyway.
Here’s a pic of the steak. Half-eaten cos I forgot to take it before I walloped it.

Oddly, her steak came without her vegs and mine came without the sauce. I asked the waitress and she went to check. Seems like there’s a cockup and she told us that it’d be rectified. I casually asked if she had informed the manager. She replied yes, a lil absent-mindedly.
We eventually got her veg and my sauce, almost 20 mins later.
Here’s a pic of the sautéed mushrooms. Quite nice really.

But it turned out that my sauce was the wrong sauce. This was promptly changed in about 5 mins maybe. I got a little pissed now. I asked to see the manager.
15 mins passed, he didn’t come. I was getting edgy, to a large extent from the goading from the Goddess.
When he eventually came, I let go everything I had to say. I even asked him his name. I found that when u talk to people and you say their names a couple of times, they pay more attention. I even dropped some names to make him shudder in his pants.
He came back after a while with a tray of desserts. Complimentary of the chef, he said. Before he left, he asked if we wanted any coffee or tea. I declined but Goddess wanted Earl Grey.

The tea came but it was English Breakfast!!! DIAO! I took a picture of the English Breakfast label but it was too blurry. But the Dilmah label for English Breakfast is red and dark purple for Earl Grey, so that’s evidence enough.

Wonders never cease, just as cockups never case. Tsk tsk.
To be fair, the food was good.

More Thanks
Letter opener

Another pair of cuffs, after the Tiffany ones. My last two presents (at Christmas) were also cufflinks.

After-Shot
I completed my photoshoot that day.
It was a hard wrenching one.
After some initial snaps, the photographer told me to jut my head out a bit to reduce my double chin. Then he said my head was a little tilted to one side. Then he said my smile was too small, asked me to smile wider. I did and he grimaced a little when he saw my crooked teeth.
Frankly, the pictures turned out quite nice. He still needs to photoshop away a little of my pimple scars. Im glad the tie/suit combi looked good.
Will post on FB when i get them.

Gulp
It’s not a good day when you have an important lunch at 1230am and your shoe opens up at 1130am. It hurts even more when the shoes are one of my four favourite shoes. Not the right day when I have a site visit on Sentosa after lunch some more. Guaranteed to have lots of walking.

Quickly went downstairs to get it cobbled. Quick solution is to nail it together.
Sometimes these service providers try to examine your lives just by them servicing you. He looked at the relatively pristine condition of my shoes and he said “ I bet you have many shoes right?”
“Erm.. how do you know?”
“Cos the shoe looks new but the glue is all dried up”
“Oops”
My hairdresser also tries to assess my life when she saw my sudden influx of white hair and asked me if my new job was stressful.
For the power lunch, there was this odd dish – noodles made from lobster and flour. And this was topped with pieces of lobster meat. Amazing how they thought of it. It was quite nice at first before it got quite je-lat…
I’m having a headache now. I think it’s the cholesterol rush.

Bleah
I’m quite sick of typing, saying, smsing the word “triathlon” now. Yes, it was fun. Yes, it was a personal achievement for me. Yes, I was the only one in my company to do all three parts.
But there’re still people coming up to me and congratulating me. The attention was fine for a while but by the 8th time I have to repeat my experience, I was bordering on being irritated.
But still, the congratulations are coming in, especially since they saved the pictures taken at the event on the shared drive.
I hope it ends soon. Im not used to people paying attention to my athletic feats.

Comfort
Which side?
Someone asked me once:
With the F1 coming to Singapore and that Singapore drives on the left side, wouldnt the F1 racers have to change cars since many parts of the world drive on the other side??
While, i'm sure the F1 teams have many cars, the cars are all driven from the middle.

I Survived
I survived.
At the end it wasnt THAT bad. I was shocked at the coldness of the seawater. And for some reason i was suddenly thrust to the front of the swim start. Caught me by surprise and took me some time to get used to it.
The 10km of cycling seemed endless. The lousy ass racer i rented was ..lousy ass. I swear i did not overtake anyone at all. NO ONE. I was overtaken by people who were in the subsequent waves... i was fine. I was just looking to finish. It did, however, got quite embarrassing, when the women, who started a good 15 to 20 mins after me start to overtake me. I was quite embarrassed. My number tag indicates when i start and everyone could tell i was slow. Then after the women, the relay people (read: my colleagues) started to overtake me. My boss overtook me, even though he started 30 mins after me. :(
The 2km run was quite easy. Of course i walked some parts but when i saw cameras i ran and made it look effortless. All those pics will be posted on the website la.. Cannot malu.
In the end, I received a hero's welcome from my colleagues, simply cos i was the only one who did all three components.
After the event and resting for 2 hours, i went to play badminton from 2-5pm. Needless to say, I'm damn tired now.

Clarification
Perhaps I should have explained a little more about my participation in the triathlon.
My colleague actually asked me if i wanted to join... the components (200m swim, 10km cycle, 2km) seemed manageable, so i agreed.
Then she went on to jio a lot more people and soon my company is sending 5 teams and she somehow managed to get the company to sponsor us for the registration fee and also print a tee shirt as well. (which, by the way, turned out butt ugly. My dad's going to get a new shirt)
Out of the five teams, im the only one doing all three components by myself. The other people are doing a relay where each does one portion. I dont know why im such an over-achiever sometimes. Sigh.
So here i am. I went to the Nike shop so many times over the last two days to get myself properly attired. Hard to find something that is flattering that i can wear when im swimming, cycling and running. I finally did today after work.
In any case, my boss, who is quite the speedster, is doing the cycling component. He thinks it's no kick. So he's going to get someone to drop him and his bike at the event at East Coast, cycle his 10km and then cycle home to Bukit Timah. The 10km is just like a warm up for him. Haha..

How to go for a long lunch without appearing slack?
If your lunch time is between 12 to 1pm,
Hurry to the lobby at around 12:30, looking very busy.
The key thing is about the time you return. If you return at 2:10 or 2:30 or 3:pm, people will think you took a long lunch.
But if you return at say 3:30pm, people will think you had a meeting outside, cos no one can be THAT audacious to have such a long lunch.
No one but you.

Triathlon

My triathlon is this Sunday.
And im not feeling too well. Ate too many satay over the weekend.
Swimming 200metres, Cycling for 10km and running for 2km
Sounds manageable.
There’re quite a lot of things to bring to ensure a good race.
1. Sunglasses
2. Small Towel
3. Big Towel
4. Powder
5. Running shoes
6. Socks
7. Slippers
8. Tights
9. Goggles
10. Spare tee shirt
11. Water bottle
Sporting
It was an all sporting weekend last weekend.
Jogged 4km on Friday evening with my colleagues.
Played badminton on Saturday noon with my colleagues
Ate geylang beef kway tiao
Watched Zohan at night
Played badminton yet again on Sunday noon
Stuffed my face with many satay after badminton
Then mah-jong.
So fun
